Mean Girls

So you know it's going to happen sooner or later - your daughter gets dissed by the neighborhood girls - but that doesn't mean I didn't want to throttle a couple of 6 year-olds for doing it! Now I fully admit that since I am not privy to the things that go on at preschool (Bryn does not tell me anything no matter which techniques I try to use to get it out of her) this may have happened before and I acknowledge that my very own sweet child could have dissed another little girl herself. That does not, however, make it any easier to watch your kid go through it!

Bryn saw a couple of the little girls that she plays with often out playing and wanted to go out, too. She got dressed and went out to ask them if she could play with them - they said no and she, of course, ran home crying. So we had the talk about having hurt feelings, treating others kindly, how we can choose our friends and choose those who treat us nicely or treat us badly, etc. Not 10 minutes later the little girls were ringing our doorbell and asking for snacks and drinks (I am evidently the local snack supplier). I wanted to tell them they were never getting refreshments at this address again, but the adult in me prevailed and I told them they had really hurt Bryn's feelings and I wasn't sure whether we would be having snacks with them today. After not so much as a "sorry" from either one, Bryn bounded out the door and was ready to play with them all day. Needless to say, I think the whole thing was much more traumatic for mother than child!

So beyond that (and finally figuring out the mystery of the stinky garage - one of the cats had gone out there and peed in an old, empty litter box...disgusting!), all has been pretty quiet today. I would love to post about the fabulous gourmet meal of chile-lime marinated pork tenderloin, salad of baby lettuce with vinaigrette, roasted asparagus and homemade rolls that I am about to whip up, but I am afraid my husband might rat me out...

You so totally crack me up, girl! I think he'd have kept your secret for you. But I'm not sure I would have believed he'd eat roasted asparagus.

'Fess up--you really felt like smacking those two girls upside the head, didn't you? (Please, tell me, it's not just me!) We're back to dealing with that crap around here, too. Thought it was all over with, but no. I think what bugs me most is that Annie won't wise up and refuse to play with "the offender". Hopefully, Bryn will be wiser than Annie. Actually, I really hope it just never happens again!

Mean girls need a good *shake* every now and then. I have dealt with my share of them and whew, I don't think many of them ended up liking me in the end, LOL. The ones that expect snacks after being rude to your daughter, Pffft on them, LOL. I have no patience for that stuff. I hope Bryn doesn't let this be a pattern. It would be so hard to watch the mean girls walk all over her like that.

Thanks for the book recommendation, Kara! Sounds like a good one, and I'm definitely going to look for it one of these days. Though I think I'm going to read some lighter fare for the next few weeks...I don't think I do well with too much "real world depression" at once.

kids are so cruel. five years in daycare taught me that. (as if my own childhood wasn't proof enough. =P ha!)

and hey... at least the kitty peed in an old litter box & not all over your coat like my old roommate's cat did to me once.
